Markham Moor Inn has stood quietly on the side of the Old Great North Road for over 350 years and has seen English history in the making. The grade two listed property was purchased in 1999 by husband and wife, Steve and Laura Heath. Although the building was dilapidated and the garden overgrown, it was clear that it had potential. Over the years, Steve and Laura fully refurbished the interior and exterior and added a large extension to the restaurant. The Inn boasts a public bar, lounge bar, restaurant, eight bedrooms and a fenced garden with children's play area. Steve’s legacy will now live on through Mike and Joe who have been part of the Markham family since the early days and who have come to love the Inn as their own.
Mike held a number of trainee chef roles at local restaurants before joining Steve in the kitchen in 2001 where he was personally trained by Steve to provide the same high standard of cuisine as is still evident in today’s restaurant. Joe joined the team at the tender age of 15 straight from school and took on an apprenticeship where he worked 5 days, attended Sheffield Catering College one day a week and only had one day off. Their loyalty, commitment and hard work has proved worthwhile as they now take forward their own business and continue the successes of the Inn, only now they don't have any days off !
